Maysville, KY Home Investigation

This was a P.I.N.K. investigation in the historic, former town of Old Washington near Maysville, KY. The home we investigated was the old courthouse there, and was the inspiration for Harriet Beecher Stove’s “Uncle Tom Cabin” book, when she witnessed slaves being auctioned on the front steps of this building. The lot and foundation date back to at least 1794.

I can’t give out the address or any identifying information, as it is currently a private residence. The owners would like to sell it to someone who would be interested in making a museum out of the home.

Here is the timeline on the building:

1794: Foundation and cellar date back to this year, when it was the Old Washington Courthouse
It was the first courthouse built west of the Allegehany Mountains.
1909: The courthouse burned after the clock tower was struck by lightning.
1915: It was rebuilt using the same style and was used as a private girls school.
1978: It was purchased and used as a private residence and they added on to the back doubling the size.
It is now 4,000 square feet.

A hanging tree apparently existed near the street at the end of the long front lawn, it has been since cut down by a previous owner. Two very old houses (colonial style) exist next door and are used as museums. I remember Jon and I getting a kick out of asking the General’s name, that was on a historical marker as the previous resident of the neighboring historic residence, to respond, and on cue he did - for what it’s worth, using dowsing rods.

Slaves were auctioned at times, on the front step, and kept in the building.

The owners have reported a shadow figure, being poked or touched, doors opening and closing, children’s voices at night, and “cologne-like” smells. I and others had several unexplained EMF spikes throughout the house, including the K2 meter. I had a few personal experiences, they are documented in the videos below. Other members experienced the sound of footsteps near or on the front stairs, and a “gasp,” or soft male exhale or whisper both in-person, and it was also recorded by my video camera. When I heard this sound early in the night, I thought someone had just walked by me a foot or two away, but no one was near me at the time (2nd foor, back bedroom area).

It’s my opinion that the building is active or haunted. Check out the embedded video files below for visual and audio evidence from the P.I.N.K. investigation.

Findings:

This video below is one of my favorites. Watch the speed and flight pattern this infrared anamolie moves in. It’s bright white, with a morphing, cloudy shape, and is at least 12 feet away from the camera (ruling out a bug). I remember seeing this in my camera’s LCD screen when it happened, and knowing that immediately it was paranormal. Keep in mind these types of anamolies are only visible, typically, in the infrared spectrum, which is too far “below” our physical sight, to see under normal conditions.

Some of the audio on these requires you to really turn up the volume - it’s there and it’s clear enough to hear - just a volume issue. I have tried to shy away from posting EVP’s that are questionable or too hard to hear.

The one to really pay attention to is the first video above, of the white anamoly. I have never seen anything like that captured before.

My name is Brad, and I am a team member of Paranormal Investigators Of Northern Kentucky (P.I.N.K.). Previously I was a member of Southern Ohio Paranormal and have also conducted independent investigations. PINK has been a highly successful group in the field and have been to many locations in the last 3 years around the OH/KY/IND area.

I have investigated, formally as a small group or with an "official team," close to 20 different private homes and government buildings, as of summer 2008. Most of the investigations were homes owned by concerned or curious residents. I also live in an active home in an Ohio River historic district, across the river from downtown Cincinnati, and it has propelled my long-time interest into a formal hobby a few years ago, helping others and cataloging the evidence of stories.

P.I.N.K. is registered with the State Of Kentucky as an offical non-profit organization. This web site does not represent P.I.N.K. or it's views necessarily, and not all of the evidence here is approved by the group. This is just a personal blog/diary of mine, as I wanted an outlet to show what I've recorded and experienced.

In any case, I welcome questions and constructive criticism of anything here.
