Colin Wilson’s “Poltergeist”

Ξ February 20th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Paranormal Worlds |

It was only in the last several years that I discovered that one of my favorite college age writers was also heavily into the paranormal. I remember being affected a bit by his books on philosophy and interpreting people like Neitschze, as well as his well-known classic “The Outsider.” So I figured anything he’d write on the paranormal had to be intelligent and probably worth reading, at least…ecspecially compared to so much of the other money-seeking crap out there on the subject.

“Poltergeist” is, so far, the most interesting and relatable book on the paranormal I’ve read. It’s a great study on the history and modern origins of spiritualism and the concept of ghosts, without being dull or covering things we’ve read about a 100 times already. He sticks to the cases and people who stayed on the scientific track dating back to the 19th century. He references the origins of such theories you see on shows like “Ghost Hunters” where they talk (albeit very briefly) about the abilities of rocks and water being conduits or recording devices for storing residual paranormal phenomenon. But ultimately it is presented as a theory and not truth, which I appreciate.

The subject of Poltergeists lies at the core of hauntings and paranormal activity, and Wilson eventually comes to the conclusion they are indeed spirits, and not the externalization of the subconscious, while also making a strong case for the dual personality of all living humans and the split brain and how we still don’t understand it. He also makes a justification for people being conduits for spirits to operate or act out in our physical world.

It’s about much more than Polergeists, and is a great education on the paranormal…and I haven’t finished it yet. If you really are interested in the subject, you’ll enjoy it.

Personal EVP

My grandparents are buried at Vine Hill Cemetary near Clifton, OH. It’s owned by Spring Grove Cemetary and used to be called the German Cemetary. I checked on their grave about two years ago, and had an audio recorder with me. It was windy but you can hear a quick, faint voice pop-in and say “hope you don’t bother me” or “no, you don’t bother me.” There are multiple graves around this area, including my great grandparents and other unknown graves very close to it. It’s historic, and probably underrated for it’s significance and ties to the city. I was just standing near their graves (grandfather and grandmother) when this was recorded, by myself, no one else was with me, and not a single person was in the cemetary at the time. I don’t really subscribe to cemetaries being haunted, but if you understand Victorian era cemetaries and those that were raised during that time up until the 1930’s, you’ll understand how the garden-like cemetaries were viewed as their sanctuary, and plots were purchased well before death. Frequent visits were common from relatives still living, so who knows.

It’s not a “class A” type of EVP, you have to listen for it, but you should catch it fairly easily (with the help from the subtitle), it’s a whisper, but a sound that has no business on the audio in a setting like that. I recorded for about 15 min’s in somewhat windy conditions and didn’t pick up anything else like this, and it was recorded as I was just walking up to the grave site of my grandparents for the first time. I was the last person to have a conversation with my grandfather, as we watched TV together the night he died in his sleep, in 1980.

National Geographic Presents: Ghost Particles

Ξ February 12th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Paranormal Worlds |

Well, this is the type of TV program I’d care to see. I wonder where I can see the full episode? (haven’t looked yet)

The idea that apparitions or “ghosts” may be made up of Neutrinos (they’re everywhere and are invisible) is a huge stretch still, but is the one particle we know of, capable of passing through matter (unlike Atoms). The problem suggested in this clip is that Neutrinos do not give-off an electromagnetic charge nor light. The argument that a conscious form of sub-atomic matter, in this case Neutrinos, may be able to attract or absorb energy from the environment and reflect light or manipulate objects, doesn’t seem to be brought up in the preview. Just look at the IR anamoly videos I have here, while they’re not in human form (entirely logical for a “spirit” of someone not bound to a human physical body), they emit very weak light in the IR spectrum and pass through everything. Are they simply made-up of particles we don’t know about yet? The clip makes the possible conclusion that “ghosts” don’t exist possibly as a result, but that people keep having experiences and seeing them.

Well, I would hope this show goes into more depth and would look at obvious examples of things caught that defy explanation, instead of casting it off as not existing because science can’t explain it yet – very poor angle if that’s what this show represents, but I just don’t know yet.

Regardless, this is exactly the type of attention I want to see, and the type of rational, scientific investigating and posturing that all of the investigator types out there will hopefully, indirectly solicit, as a result of their efforts, good and bad. There is basically undeniable proof, that spirits or ghosts or some kind of phenomenon, exists after death that has human ties. We just don’t understand it yet.

Many children ‘hear voices’; most aren’t bothered

Mon Jan 25, 9:51 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Nearly 1 in 10 seven- to eight-year-olds hears voices that aren’t really there, according to a new study.

But most children who hear voices don’t find them troubling or disruptive to their thinking, the study team found. “These voices in general have a limited impact in daily life,” Agna A. Bartels-Velthuis of University Medical Center Groningen in The Netherlands wrote in an email to Reuters Health.

And parents whose children hear voices should not be overly concerned, she added. “In most cases the voices will just disappear. I would advise them to reassure their child and to watch him or her closely.”

Been sick/school/job/weather stinks in Cincinnati!

I had to postpone the TV show interview in L.A. until the end of January, due to catching a nasty cold/flu. And once I got over it, I caught yet another cold not a week later. I might be 40 years old, but I eat relatively well, exercise 3-5 times a week, but the stress of going to school and planning out a career change this fall, starting with a 12-15 month full-time education in Mortuary Science, if all goes well, preceeded by 6-12 hours of classes this spring and summer, along with working full-time, is a bit much on anyone I suppose…ecspecially when it’s been below freezing for a month straight here, along with a snow storm.

What a week this has been, and I am happy Friday is almost here! We have an annual PINK meeting this Saturday at Jill’s place (our team psychic) and 2 private cases this month, and I am settling into my plans and schedule finally. I am determined to have a better year than last, and to reach some of my long-term goals before I get too old. If volunteer work with the paranormal takes a back seat for a while, then that’s the way it has to be.

I look forward to getting back on track here, and it looks like I may be working amongst and caring for the dead full-time in the future as well!

Happy Holidays

Looking forward to a better year and some changes. Look for some posts from Los Angeles around Jan 6-10th, as I’ll be heading there to do a short television interview for an A&E/Biography Channel show episode for “My Ghost Story.” They are featuring one of our local cases and some evidence I happened to catch. It’s truly a “story” based type of show, but love the fact they’re willing to include a piece of evidence and interview with an investigator.

We did have a private case on 12/14, and another scheduled in mid-January. There’s been no updates here or on PINK’s web site the last month or so, purely due to personal events (two babies) the holidays, a job change and following career change by myself, etc…, This simply isn’t a priority when life matters take all of my reserve energy and time. I will be adding a case in Florence KY we completed soon, and Jan should be a lot more active.

Bye for now and thanks for stopping by…Brad
