Future of EVP? :)

The quality of my audio is dramatically different with this. The only slight drawback is that the microphones, while incredibly sensitive and high quality compared to most digital recorders we use, are directional and focus on the area directly in front of the recorder, and about 20 degrees to the left and right. But it has great range and clarity, and is much more convenient for computer manipulation. It also has a real-time headphone listening feature, like my Olympus recorder. But I bought it to use for my guitar projects/practice, so it serves a couple of purposes.

Real ghost hunting: not that fake stuff on TV

…or so says Jan Gregory of Vancouver Paranormal.

VANCOUVER — Lesson No. 1: Don’t believe what you see on TV. Ghost hunting is boring. There is no traipsing loudly through cemeteries. No spooky séances. No startling at every sound.

Real ghost hunting requires hours of sitting in silence and a skeptical mind, explains Jan Gregory, founder of Vancouver Paranormal, to her students.

They have gathered in a dark house on a Thursday evening for a four-hour crash course on the basics of tracking and detecting paranormal activity.

Ms. Gregory has little regard for ghost-hunting television shows in which paranormal investigators holler for ghosts to show themselves and raise alarm at any strange noise for dramatic effect.

But the popularity of shows such as Most Haunted, Paranormal State, Ghost Hunters and Ghost Trackers has proven to be a double-edged sword for real-life ghost hunters.

It has brought a legion of new people to the pastime, but most of them are going about it all wrong.

“I’m tired of people doing it the way they do it on TV,” Ms. Gregory says. “All they do is give ghost hunting a bad name.”

Their job does not involve “ghost busting.” Rather, they record and witness mysterious happenings. In fact, ghost hunting is somewhat of a misnomer, says Ms. Gregory, a self-described skeptic, since no one is able to prove whether ghosts exist.

But, she adds, “I can tell you without a doubt that strange things happen.”

I wanted to thank everyone who showed up this afternoon at the Boone County Library Schoeben Branch for P.I.N.K.’s annual membership drive, everyone we met were honestly solid, interested people who all had something to offer and it will be hard to only pick 2 people initially.

We presented a very limited number of EVP files, you can view many more here at ParanormalWorlds or at P.I.N.K.’s web site of course.

Mike, myself (Brad) Jon and Ruth Huber, and Ann, all enjoyed meeting everyone, and I am sorry that I didn’t get a chance to speak with a few people in more detail. The popularity of this field is booming, as are the number of local groups popping up.

P.I.N.K. has two investigations coming up, a privately owned building in Dry Ridge Kentucky next Saturday August 2nd, and we will be returning to the Williamstown Home again on August 9th.

I’ll also try and post some of the other members’ evidence files on the case pages here soon, to make it more convenient for people to view evidence.

I’ll be sure to update the site after next week’s investigation with any evidence files and reports of experiences, as soon as it’s appropriate to do so.

Thanks for stopping by and I really do appreciate everyone who have sent me comments and requests the last few months.

Pastor’s Quote In The Washington Post…

Ξ July 20th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Paranormal Worlds |

Below is an excerpt from “On Faith,” an Internet feature sponsored by The Washington Post and Newsweek. Each week, more than 50 figures from the world of faith engage in a conversation about an aspect of religion. This week’s question: Polls routinely show that 75 percent of Americans hold some form of belief in the paranormal, such as astrology, telepathy and ghosts. All religions contain beliefs in the supernatural. Is there a link? What’s the difference?
In the Paranormal Realm, Believing Is SeeingThe Washington Post

What makes the paranormal possible is one’s ability and desire to believe in it. It’s the same way, I believe, that miracles happen; if one believes a miracle will happen, it’s more likely to happen than if one stays in a cauldron of cynicism. . . .

If we believe in ghosts or astrology or any “paranormal” presence, we set ourselves up to have an experience which will justify and validate our beliefs. In that way, believing in the paranormal is not much different from religious belief. Have the hands of the Christ really bled, from time to time, as people have reported, or did the people see what they believed they could see?

– Susan K. Smith, senior pastor of Advent United Church of Christ, Columbus, Ohio

Not a big fan of her view of the paranormal I guess. Saying that people “experiencing” paranormal activity, are doing so, because they “choose to believe in it.”

This is a back-handed way of condemning people living in active homes, as being at fault for letting it affect them. “You are only seeing and hearing and feeling what you want to, not what is really there.”

Cmon. The arrogance of pretending to know you have all the answers to life and death, and the universe, is absurd. It’s ok to to just say, “I don’t know anything about that,” if you don’t.

Evidence File Of The Week..7/11/08

One of my favorite compliations of visual “orb” or “plasmoid” anamolies recorded during the Alexandria Home Investigation below. I can’t debunk these, and they also are typical of what you will see in the IR spectrum, in active locations, even if you don’t have any major personal experiences or physical manipulation.

My name is Brad, and I am a team member of Paranormal Investigators Of Northern Kentucky (P.I.N.K.). Previously I was a member of Southern Ohio Paranormal and have also conducted independent investigations. PINK has been a highly successful group in the field and have been to many locations in the last 3 years around the OH/KY/IND area.

I have investigated, formally as a small group or with an "official team," close to 20 different private homes and government buildings, as of summer 2008. Most of the investigations were homes owned by concerned or curious residents. I also live in an active home in an Ohio River historic district, across the river from downtown Cincinnati, and it has propelled my long-time interest into a formal hobby a few years ago, helping others and cataloging the evidence of stories.

P.I.N.K. is registered with the State Of Kentucky as an offical non-profit organization. This web site does not represent P.I.N.K. or it's views necessarily, and not all of the evidence here is approved by the group. This is just a personal blog/diary of mine, as I wanted an outlet to show what I've recorded and experienced.

In any case, I welcome questions and constructive criticism of anything here.
